NZTR has provided an Updated Venue Plan, with the next intended update to take place in 2029. 

In December 2023, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) advised that it was updating its current Venue Plan to consider changes in the racing landscape. 

NZTR’s first step in the update process was to consult stakeholders on the current Venue Plan. Stakeholders were invited to provide submissions on the current Venue Plan by Thursday 29 February 2024.

NZTR received 23 submissions, which were carefully considered when updating the Venue Plan. 

NZTR CEO Bruce Sharrock was pleased with the supportive messaging of the submissions. 

"We would like to thank those parties that took the time to submit their concerns and provide input. Overall, the submissions were in favour of the current Venue Plan and also gave insight into further work that needs to be done in this space." 

The 2024 Updated Venue Plan sets out the network required to deliver 300 licenses and provides a contingency plan for present and potential venue redevelopments. 

While the Venue Plan is fundamentally unchanged from the Venue Plan set out in the 2021 Directions Paper, NZTR has decided that we will continue to race and trial at Woodville Racecourse until the Venue Plan is next reviewed in 2029.
